Ciao everybody ...

That's it for today's Sunday super blog. Three decent games, with North's win over the Dees probably the pick of the bunch.

Questions will be asked again this week about West Coast's ability to play effective football in Melbourne. They were putrid against the Bombers, going down by 10 goals at Etihad Stadium.

North had their best win of the season against a Demons side that didn't make the most of their abundant control of the play. There will also be some MRP questions from the match. Shaun Higgins in particular for his hit on Clayton Oliver. And expect some fines to be handed out given there were three or four decent melees.

Carlton tried hard but Freo eventually overcame the Blues' 35-point head start in a scrappy, rain-soaked contest. Remember Carlton were down to two on the bench for most of the match with Thomas and Rowe injured.

Freo go up to FIFTH on the ladder.

Freo's stars, Carlton's battlers ...

Freo's best performers included Crozier and Walters, who kicked three goals apiece. Lachie Neale starred with 37 touches and a goal, while Connor Blakely had 33 and Nat Fyfe 30.

Walters had 27 touches to go with his three goals.

For Carlton, Levi Casboult kicked two goals while Gibbs, Thomas, Docherty, Murphy and Fisher kicked singles.

Gibbs racked up 34 touches, Murphy 32 and Ed Curnow 31.

Dale Thomas will have to be assessed, you would think, after missing most of the match with concussion. As will Sam Rowe who injured his knee.

Disappointing for Carlton fans to lose given their 30-point-plus first quarter lead, but they tried hard and the injuries didn't help them.

FRE 86 CAR 51

Goal. Matt Tabener scores what will be the last goal of this contest.

Q4 FRE 80 CAR 51

Goal. Carlton have been gallant today and they've kept Freo fairly quiet this quarter, but with three minutes to go Crozier's third goal has sealed this result for ROss Lyon's team.

Q4 FRE 73 CAR 51

Goal. Fremantle needed that steadier because Carlton had started the better. They got it, through Brad Hill.

I spoke too soon again ...

Carlton goal! Beautiful goal from 50 by Sam Docherty. They're just just just hanging on. FRE 67 CAR 51

Wayward Blues ...

Carlton have started better here but they missed two set shots through Jacob Weitering and Casboult.

Still no scores this quarter ...

Quarter four begins ...

And the rain is back too.

Three-quarter time ... FRE 10.7.67 CAR 6.9 45

Finally a bit of breathing space for Fremantle. They fought back well in that quarter and emerged clearly the better side at the final change.

Carlton are doing well to stay in touch despite Thomas and Rowe being done for the day.

Last Freo goal particularly hurts given Carlton were pressing for one of their own just before it.

Q3 FRE 67 CAR 45

Goal. To Cam McCarthy. He has been very quiet all day but announced himself there will a great goal from 50 on the run.

Q3 FRE 60 CAR 45

Goal. Walters has another! He has three and is single-handedly taking the game away from Carlton.

But right on cue ...

Goal. From Walters. He's been brilliant today. FRE 54 CAR 45

About what I said earlier ..

I thought the game would open up, due to a few quick goals and the lack of rain. But I was wrong. Only three goals this quarter with just over five minutes to play.

FRE 48 CAR 45

Carlton down to two on the bench ...

Dale Thomas is out due to concussion and Sam Rowe is off with a knee complaint. It'll be tough for Carlton from here.

Q3 FRE 47 CARL 44

Goal. Kersten has his second. The game has opened up now given there is more sunshine and less rain.
