Services won't pinch much, healthcare and education exempted from GST list

The Goods and Services Tax Council broadly agreed on 4 tax brackets for services (5%, 12%, 18% and 28%), though they are yet to decide on a tax bracket for gold.

According to sources, healthcare and education have been exempted from the service list. Most service structures will remain as is, said sources. This implies services will become cheaper in some segments.

GST on hotel charges for room rents above 5000 per night will be 28%, said reports.

Kerala FM Thomas Isaac said luxury goods will be taxed at 28% under GST. The Council will next meet on June 3, TV reports said.

More details are awaited.
