Woman held for stealing jewellery from relative's house

Police have arrested a 50-year- old woman for allegedly stealing jewellery and from her relative's house in south Delhi's Khirki Extension.

Deepak Kumar approached police with a complaint that jewellery and Rs 9.57 lakh in had been stolen from his house, said Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) Ishwar Singh.



In the complaint, he said that on the evening of May 7, he along with his wife had gone to their relative's house in Laxmi Nagar for dinner.

When they came back the next day, they found that the locks of their house and almirah were intact but and jewellery articles had been stolen.

Since there were no signs of forced entry in the house and the locks weren't found to be broken, it was suspected that someone close to Deepak and his family had stolen the valuables, police said.

Police questioned the relatives of the complainant, neighbours and security guards. They also examined the CCTV footage from the surrounding area and the needle of suspicion pointed towards one Shabnam, maternal aunt of Deepak's wife.

A raid was conducted at Shabnam's house in Laxmi Nagar today and stolen cash, gold and silver jewellery articles were recovered from there following which she was arrested.

Shabnam told police that she knew that there was huge amount of kept in Deepak's house.

When the couple visited her house in Laxmi Nagar on May 7, she stole the house keys from Deepak's wife's purse.

Shabnam left her house on the pretext of taking her maid for a doctor's visit and asked the couple to stay at her house till she returns.

She burgled their house in Khirki Extension and went back to Laxmi Nagar late night and asked the couple to stay at her home overnight.
