Police have arrested eight people for allegedly organising betting on an IPL match.
They were apprehended by a Crime Branch team from a bungalow in Wadala locality, an official said.
Seventy-nine mobile sets, three laptops, a led TV set, two voice recorders and other electronic materials worth Rs 4.22 lakh were seized from them, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime and Special Branch), Vijay Kumar Magar said in a release.
The police raided the bungalow last night after getting specific input that a group of people was organising betting on an IPL match, the release said.
Those arrested were identified as Lokesh Khatri (33), Sharad Nakote (46), Mohmed Izaj Shaikh (45), Rajesh Kale (45), Sajid Bakhta (30), Amit Trivedi (33), Suraj Kamasti (40) and Rajesh Kamati (22), it said.
They have been booked under relevant sections of the IPC and the Prevention of Gambling Act, said Sachin Khairnar, in-charge of Mumbai Naka police station.
