4 chain-snatchings in 2 days send cops in tizzy

Four chain-snatching cases were reported in the city on Tuesday and Wednesday. The police suspect that a gang which recently walked out of jail on bail is behind these incidents. Bike-borne miscreants made away with a 25-gm gold chain from Rekha Suresh, who was going to a relative’s house in Subramanyapura near Abbayya Naidu Studio, Chikkalsandra, at 1.30 pm on Wednesday. One of the two approached her on the pretext of asking for an address and gave her a piece of paper. As she was reading it, he snatched her chain and sped away on the bike driven by the other.

At 2.15 pm, in Konanakunte, bike-borne miscreants made away with a 35-gm gold chain snatched from another woman, Mangala. Though the residents tried to chase and catch the duo, they escaped. Police suspect the same duo behind the incident.

Two miscreants on a Bajaj Discover bike made away with a 125-gm gold chain from a woman shopkeeper in Maruthi Nagar at 2.30 pm. The two went to Munigangamma’s shop and asked for cigarettes. While she turned to get the cigarettes, one of them threw chilli powder on her face, snatched her chain and escaped.

Bike-borne miscreants snatched a 60-gm gold chain from an elderly woman in Konankunte, while she was returning from a temple at around 7 pm.

A miscreant barged into the house of Vijayalakshmi of Kurubarahalli and made away with her 26-gm gold chain on Tuesday night. Vijayalakshmi had forgotten to lock the door and had gone to sleep, when the incident occurred. On seeing him, Vijayalakshmi cried for help, but he fled. Basaveshwaranagar police have registered a case.
