HTC plans 4G models priced over Rs 10,000

TAIPEI: HTC plans to launch 4G VoLTE devices priced above Rs 10,000 under the Desire range in the second half of this year as part of its efforts to make a mark in India’s highly competitive market that it has been struggling to get a foothold in.

“India is a strategic and growing smartphone market for HTC. We are creating a robust portfolio for the country,” HTC South Asia president Faisal Siddiqui told ET.

In India, where 70% of the smartphones are priced below Rs 10,000, Siddiqui said the Rs 10,000-15,000 segment is the fastest growing smartphone category and one which HTC wants to tap into at a time when average selling prices of handsets are increasing.
