Market now: Tata Steel, PNB, ICICI Bank among most active stocks in terms of volume

The benchmark equity indices turned choppy in Wednesday's trade after hitting record high levels in the early moning session thanks, to mixed global cues. The NSE Nifty index fell 0.11 per cent to 9,502.05 while the BSE Sensex declined 0.03 per cent to 30,588.30.

Tata Steel climbed 6.15 per cent amid high volumes. It was the most active stock on NSE. By 11.30 a total of 1.93 crore Tata Steel shares had changed hands. The company reported a prominent decline in its year-on-year losses in the fourth quarter on Tuesday, to emerge as the most traded security on the NSE in volume in Wednesday's session.

PNB (1.18 crore), ICICI Bank (0.73 crore) and SBI (0.47 crore) were other most traded stocks on the exchange in volume terms.

JSW Steel (0.66 crore), Vedanta (0.39 crore), Hindalco Industries (0.35 crore), Idea Cellular (0.33 crore), SAIL (0.30 crore), Ashok Leyland (0.28 crore), DLF (0.27 crore), Axis Bank (0.25 crore), ITC (0.24 crore), Bank of Baroda (0.24 crore), NTPC (0.21 crore), Bharti Airtel (0.19 crore), PFC (0.16 crore), ONGC (0.16 crore), Ambuja Cements (0.15 crore), Tata Power (0.15 crore) were among other most traded securities.

Overall 31 companies were trading in red while 20 were trading in green on the Nifty50.

In the Nifty index, Indiabulls Housing Finance (up 3.10 per cent), ICICI Bank (up 1.72 per cent), Bharti Airtel (up 1.24 per cent), M&M (up 1.05 per cent) and Hero MotoCorp (up 0.95 per cent) were trading in green in morning trade.

Whereas, Tech Mahindra (down 2.60 per cent), YES Bank (down 1.53 per cent), Bosch (down 1.29 per cent), Ambuja Cements (down 1.21 per cent), Wipro (down 1.21 per cent) and ACC (down 1.16 per cent) were among top losers.
