Actor Rana Daggubati, who gave a stellar performance as Bhallaladeva in Telugu blockbuster Baahubali 2: The Conclusion may don the role of Bheema in the upcoming Kannada movie Kurukshethra.

Film producer and MLA Munirathna has approached the actor to play the role of Bheema in the film. Actor Darshan will be playing Duryodhana’s role. The shooting for the multi-starrer project will begin on July 23 and it is likely to hit the screens in January 2018. There, however, is no word on who will be the leading lady of the film or other artistes likely to be a part of the project.

“We have approached Rana Daggubati,” Munirathna said adding that talks are in the final stages. He expressed confidence that Rana will shortly sign up for the movie. Munirathna was quick to rebuke observations that S S Rajamouli’s Baahubali inspired him to take up Kurukshetra. “I have been thinking about this project over a year now,’’ he said and added that there was no mythological film in Kannada in the last three decades.

Naganna, the director of Krantiveera Sangolli Rayanna, will direct Kurukshetrhra and Harikrishna will compose the music. About 80% of the film will be shot in Rajasthan and the remaining part will be picturised at Ramoji Film City, Hyderabad. The budget is estimated to be close to Rs 300 crore, biggest-ever in Sandalwood history.
