Jio hit: Vodafone India data Arpu slips 12.5 per cent YoY in Q4FY17

Hit by free data offer from Reliance Jio, average data revenue per user (Arpu) of Vodafone India slipped 12.50 per cent on a year-on-year (YoY) basis to Rs 140 during the quarter ended March 31, 2017 against Rs 160 in the same quarter last year. The telecom major announced its financial results for the March quarter of 2017 on Tuesday.

The company saw a 0.60 per cent YoY drop in total revenue at Rs 43,095 crore for the year ended March 31, 2017 compared with Rs 43,357 crore in the year-ago period.

Ebitda of the telecom major slipped 10.20 per cent YoY to Rs 11,784 crore in FY17 from Rs 13,115 crore in the previous year.

Operating free cash flow declined 44.10 per cent YoY to Rs 2,992 crore from Rs 5,354 crore during the same period.

Revenue from data (browsing) stood at Rs 8,467 crore during April 2016 to March 2017, registering a growth of 5 per cent on a year-on-year basis.

The Vodafone Group announced an initiative for merger between Vodafone India and Idea Cellular on March 20, 2017, creating the largest telecom operator in India. Vodafone India is a 100 per cent fully-owned subsidiary of the Vodafone Group with operations across the country, serving around 209 million customers (over 114 million in rural areas).
