New Delhi: Maruti Suzuki India Ltd will on Tuesday launch the new version of their popular Dzire compact sedan, in an attempt to revive growth in a segment that the car already dominates.
Bookings for the Maruti Suzuki Dzire had commenced on 9 May across 2,000 dealerships at Rs11,000. Though prices haven’t been revealed, the new Dzire is expected to sport a sticker price of Rs5 lakh to Rs8 lakh—comparable to the outgoing model and the competition. The new Dzire will compete with Hyundai Xcent, Honda Amaze, Ford Aspire, Tata Tigor and Volkswagen Ameo.
The new Dzire has been developed on 5th generation “Heartect” platform, which helps in weight reduction and improve frame rigidity. The new Dzire also meets frontal, side and pedestrian safety norms that will start kicking in from October this year, PTI had reported on 24 April.
“It is the sixth model from Maruti which meets safety regulations ahead of time,” Maruti’s executive director (R&D) C.V. Raman was quoted as saying in the report.
The compact sedan would be mainly produced at the company’s Manesar facility. The present generation Dzire will now be sold as Dzire Tour to the fleet operators after the launch of the updated version.
The new Dzire is also significant in a way that it highlights the increasing levels of automation at Maruti Suzuki’s plants. As many as 104 C-Series high-speed robots are being used for putting together the sub-4 metre compact sedan.
Maruti Suzuki will launch the new Dzire with two engine options—1.2 litre petrol and a 1.3 litre diesel mill. Auto-gear shift transmission versions is expected on both power trains.
The last full model update of the Dzire happened in February 2012. Last year, the company launched the compact sedan with auto gear shift (AGS) technology.
