There is nothing to lose for us, says Shami

Delhi Daredevils have lost a slew of matches in this edition to get knocked out of the qualification race. Mohammad Shami said it forced them into a situation where they played with a “nothing to lose” attitude.

"We had a bad start, we had lost a lot of games. We got better in the middle stages and now there is simply nothing to lose,” said Shami after Daredevils beat Rising Pune Supergiant by seven runs on Friday.
Shami, who has been picked for the Champions Trophy, said he was looking to make the most of the IPL matches.

“The more you play, the more you are out on the field, the more confidence you get. I am trying to play and spend more time on the field so that my body gets used to the rigours of fast bowling for the Champions Trophy,” Shami said.

Chasing Daredevils’ total of 169, RPS were in the hunt till the 15th over. But Ben Stokes got out, and MS Dhoni, replacing him, followed him in the dug out two overs later. There was a rare sight of Dhoni getting run out due to the direct hit from Shami from the short-fine leg. It proved to be the final nail in the coffin for RPS, despite Manoj Tiwary's 60 (45b).

Shami admitted Dhoni's run-out changed the complexion of the game. "Dhoni is a game-changer. He runs so fast.

“It was a 50-50 situation. I took the chance and if it worked, it would help us to win,” he said.
Meanwhile, Tiwary chose to take the complete blame for not taking RPS to the finishing line.

"I want to take the complete blame for that because I was the batsman who was set over there. And prior to the last over we couldn't get any boundaries at that point of time and I was the man who was on strike and was not able to connect.”
