Tradesman released from hospital after crane incident at Griffith construction site

A tradesman involved in an incident with a crane has been released from hospital as work safety assessors continue to investigate the site.

The man was hit by a half-tonne screen which slipped while being carried by a small mobile crane at a building site on Canberra Avenue on Friday afternoon.

ACT Work Safety Commissioner Greg Jones said it appeared the crane was still partially supportingĀ the load, which helped prevent serious injury to the worker.

Work had stopped at the site following the incident, and Mr Jones said Work Safe expected to issue further improvement notices.

Work would be unable to resume until the problems were addressed, Mr Jones said.

He said the worker was a "very lucky man" to escape with minor injuries.

"We're doing a full site audit. Any work with a crane is deemed high risk work.

"Any accident or incident involving high risk work is a major concern for Worksafe, that's why we're taking particular care and attention to have a close look at all operating procedures and systems in place."
