Hampi varsity staffer held for insulting Akkamahadevi

The Kamalapur police have arrested a staff of Kannada University, Hampi, for posting derogatory remarks against 12th century social reformer and poet Akkamahadevi and Kitturu Rani Chennamma on Facebook.
According to the police, H M Somanath, an office superintendent, was arrested following a complaint lodged by a non-teaching staff at Hampi varsity Kotresh, alleging that the derogatory comments posted by Somanath on his Facebook status on April 11 has hurt his religious sentiments.
Somanath had psoted offensive comments calling Akkamahadevi as 'Akramadevi' and Kitturu Rani Chennamma as 'Kirani Chennamma'. The posts had gone viral on social media.
