A total of 2.3 lakh students in would get free school uniforms made of handloom materials during the current academic year.

The state level inauguration of the programme would be done by Chief Minister on May 22, said Industries Minister A C Moideen, who inspected the uniform materials prepared at Hantex, the only Apex Co-operative Society of Handloom weavers' here.

In the first phase, uniforms would be given free to 2.3 lakh students studying from standard one to five, Moideen said.

State Education Minister C Raveendranath was also present on the occasion.
