More arrests are likely in the IPL season 10 “match fixing” scandal, following revelations by cricketer Nayan Shah related to betting in Friday’s match played at Kanpur. A source said eight teams have been formed by the Kanpur Police, who are conducting raids at different places in the country, to nab the other accused.

Another source said the police would seek Shah’s remand, and would produce him before a court on Monday. “We need to quiz him further on his involvement,” a police officer said. The police are also searching for Bunty Khandelwal, said to be Shah’s accomplice, and a lookout notice has been issued against him.

“Bunty may also try to flee the country... We have alerted all the airports,” the officer added. Shah, who claims to have played under-19 cricket for Maharashtra, has told the police that he had taken contracts from big betters based in Mumbai and that he used to “tamper with” pitches to influence the outcome of IPL matches.

Shah had also roped in an employee of the Green Park Stadium in Kanpur, who sprinkled water on the pitch, a source said.

Three people, including Shah, were arrested on Thursday on charges of betting in an IPL match in Kanpur between Gujarat Lions and Delhi Daredevils. A huge amount of cash was also recovered at the time of arrest. The police acted on a tip-off from the BCCI’s Anti-Corruption Unit which had been monitoring the trio’s movements.
