New Delhi: With an eye on greater revenue generation and providing better facilities to visiting tourists, Yogi Adityanath-led Uttar Pradesh government has decided to merge the local bodies of the twin temple towns of Mathura and Vrindavan, and Ayodhya and Faizabad.
The two new local bodies would be Mathura-Vrindavan Nagar Nigam and Ayodhya Nagar Nigam.
During a cabinet meeting on Tuesday, the government decided that the municipal bodies of both the holy twin towns would be merged so that there is holistic development of the entire area beyond the two cities.
“A lot of national and international tourists visit Mathura-Vrindavan because it is the birth place of Lord Krishna, it is necessary to form a common municipal body which will be able to provide better facilities to the visiting people. Ayodhya and Faizabad are holy cities and it is also the birth place of Lord Ram because of which lot of international and domestic tourists visit the two cities, it has been decided to have a common municipal body which will able to develop the cities better,” said a press statement issued by the Uttar Pradesh government on Tuesday.
The aim is to provide better services in local bodies, all-round development and providing employment to the local population.
The move is interesting because Prime Minister Narendra Modi has maintained that simultaneous development of twin cities or satellite towns near big cities will not only lead to greater development of the two cities but will also help in the holistic development of the entire area.
