Lycamobile will launch its international mobile virtual network (MVN) services in India by this year end.
Speaking to BusinessLine on the sidelines of the launch of Westminster Healthcare services in Chennai, Allirajah Subaskaran, Group Chairman, Lycamobile, said the company has applied for a licence to operate an MVN in India, and is in talks with major telecom providers for the same. The company expects to receive the licence for its pan India launch by 2017 end.
Lycamobile provides international roaming SIM cards for Indians travelling overseas. By launching the MVN, the provider will be able to cater to more consumers in the domestic market. Additionally, the new service will come with free overseas roaming facility in all countries where Lycamobile has a presence.
The firm currently operates in 22 countries and plans to add eight more by this year end. It produces around 11 million mobilephones monthly in India, most of which are exported.
