"Chief of Provincial Ulema Council Abdul Rahim Shah Hanafi was killed following an improvised explosive device (IED) inside a seminary school," Xinhua news agency quoted the officials as saying.

The attack took place when Hanafi was holding a class in the provincial capital city of Charikar. Seven students were injured.
