Over nine years as President of the Goering Center, Larry Grypp was the architect of multiple strategic accomplishments; his retirement announcement puts the Goering Center's succession plan in play, ensuring sustained, positive growth for the country's largest family and private business center
CINCINNATI, OH--(Marketwired - May 09, 2017) - Larry Grypp, who has served for nearly a decade as President of the University of Cincinnati's Goering Center for Family & Private Business during a time of extreme growth in membership and services, has announced that he will retire at the end of 2017.
Larry has personified the Goering Center's mission to nurture and educate family and private businesses in driving a vibrant regional economy. Under Larry's leadership, the Goering Center has become North America's largest membership based, university affiliated, non-profit center for family and private business education. Larry's contributions to the Center include:
In 2008, Larry became President of the Goering Center after serving 38 years in the financial services industry, concluding as President and CEO of two Western & Southern companies. Larry's career included organization and strategic management consulting, working with CEOs and other senior executives of insurance companies, banks, and real estate firms.
Larry now looks to begin his next chapter by devoting more time to the three boards he currently serves. To Larry, this work is an extension of his faith; he feels a deep emotional connection to their missions and describes his position on these boards as an intense intellectual experience. Larry also plans to dedicate more time to his wife of 46 years, pursuing her dreams and supporting their shared passions.
"It has been an incredible privilege and honor to lead this organization. I have been blessed with an extremely talented team of skilled and dedicated professionals whom I entrust to carry on the mission of the Goering Center," Grypp said.
Larry's retirement launches a succession plan that is many years in the making. Under his leadership the Center has built a substantial infrastructure while securing bench strength and support. The established framework Larry leaves behind is prepared to scale and fulfill the Center's mission in significantly larger ways.
A national search committee is being formed to find Larry's successor. Tom Flottman of Flottman Company and Jonathan Theders of RiskSOURCE, Clark-Theders will co-chair the committee.
"We have a difficult, but exciting task ahead of us as we seek a successor that will build upon Larry's legacy and continue to advance the Center," Flottman said.
The immediate timeline includes outlining the role of new leadership and seeking qualified applicants, with the plan to complete the search by early fourth quarter 2017. This target date will ensure time for a successful transition, while equipping the Center's new president with the knowledge needed to steer 2018's strategic development sessions.
"I want to thank Larry for more than nine years of leadership and dedication to the Goering Center, the University of Cincinnati and to the economic development of our entire Cincinnati region," said John Goering, founder of the Goering Center. "I, along with the Goering Center's Board of Directors, the entire staff, volunteers and more than 400 member businesses, wish Larry only the best in his next endeavors."
