Governor Kalyan Singh today called upon the people in the state to associate with Red Cross society in large numbers and serve the humanity by rendering their services.

Addressing a function here on the World Red Cross Day, the governor said that help to the needy is a service to nation and everyone should associate with this mission.



He said that people in villages and cities should be encouraged to become member of the society so that they could give their services.

On the occasion, he became a lifetime member of the society and also announced a grant of Rs 5 lakh.

Union Health Minister J P Nadda, who was also present, said that the would promote organ donation so that the lives of those in need could be saved.

He said that the has targeted to associate 20 lakh people with organ donation programme in the coming years.

"By donating organs, lives of those in need could be saved. The would promote organ donation and encourage people for this," Nadda said.

He said the Red Cross has been helping needy people.

The society is also helping Thalassemia patients by providing blood for them, he said.

The society vice president Avinash Rai Khanna said the red cross sign can be used only during the work and efforts would be made to check its misuse.
