Press Trust of India  |  Tura (Meghalaya)

Two persons, including a minor girl, died in lightning strike during a thunderstorm at Aduma Songgitcham village in North Garo Hills district today, officials said.

Anamika G Momin, a 41-year-old woman, was opening an almirah inside her thatched house when she was struck by lightning that killed her on the spot.

All the materials of the almirah were also charred.

Five-year-old girl Sengje Marak who was outside her house was also died in lightning strike, officials said.

Incessant rains and thunderstorms lashing the district for several days caused massive damage damaging around 200 houses in three blocks -- Kharkutta, Resubelpara and Bajengdoba, officials said.
