Man beaten and slashed during random attempted home invasion in Townsville

A man who was ambushed at his home by three violent attackers has been beaten with a piece of wood and slashed with a knife.

Police say the three attackers were attempting a home invasion in Townsville early Monday morning.

There was no indication attackers knew the victim and the home invasion only failed because the injured resident was able to close the main door before the trio could get inside, police said.

About 1am, two men and a woman arrived at a Meyer Court house in Kirwan. When the resident heard them in his front yard he came out to investigate.

As the 33-year-old resident opened the front door, he was hit in the head with a piece of wood by one of the men, before the other man slashed him multiple times in the torso with a knife.

The victim retreated into his home and closed the main door before the trio of attackers left after unsuccessfully trying to get inside.

The man was treated by paramedics and taken to hospital with minor injuries to his torso.

Investigations were continuing.
