New Delhi: Taking ahead the idea of leveraging information technology (IT) for good governance, chief minister Raghubar Das’s Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government in Jharkhand signed a memorandum of understanding with Oracle Corp. for driving digital transformation, particularly to improve citizen services and promote start-ups in the state.

The focus of the tie-up will be on encouraging innovation and entrepreneurship among youngsters and supporting start-ups.

“Jharkhand is a state of possibilities. To fulfil the dreams of Prime Minister Narendra Modi of Skill India and Startup India, we have to look at skilling Jharkhand. His (Modi’s) another dream is of good governance where the distance with the citizen should be reduced and we are looking at that,” Das told reporters at a press conference jointly organised with Oracle officials after the signing of the MoU in the national capital.

Das also said that the focus of his government is on skilling youngsters in the IT sector and it had asked Oracle to open an innovation centre in the state. He added that IT intervention will help in reducing corruption and the role of middlemen.
