Jet Airways and SpiceJet have increased their domestic seat shares the most by percentage for their summer schedules while Vistara has increased it the least, according to analysis of declared weekly seat distribution by ICICI Securities.

Jet Airways has 11 per cent higher weekly domestic seats, an increase from 4.11 lakh to over 4.58 this summer over last winter’s schedule. Jet plans to reduce its flights out of tier-I cities (except Mumbai) while ramping up the number from smaller towns. International weekly seats have increased by only 1.5 per cent.

SpiceJet will have six per cent higher weekly domestic seats and 26 per cent higher weekly international seats in the summer schedule (from 38,766 to 48,901 seats a week), led by Delhi and Kolkata, when compared with the last winter schedule. SpiceJet has largely maintained similar weekly domestic seat share in the summer schedule, with notable reduction in the share of southern seats. Overall weekly seats will increase by approximately 8 per cent.

Air Asia has also increased its weekly seats by 15 per cent despite a 10 per cent reduction in top-tier offering, led by Bengaluru /Kochi and offset partially by an increase in Delhi.

According to the brokerage’s analysis, GoAir offers 28 per cent higher weekly seats but also reduces its share of top-tier cities, in favour of increased presence in other eastern cities.

Among tier-I, there is a decline in share of Mumbai, Delhi and Bengaluru, while there is an increase in Kolkata and Lucknow. IndiGo has five per cent higher weekly domestic seats but 32 per cent decline in weekly international seats. IndiGo has seen decline in seat share out of the top-tier segment by five per cent (seat share of tier-1 cities has declined for all except Mumbai /Ahmedabad/Hyderabad), while the western sector share has increased by approximately three per cent. The decline in international segment is led by Kochi, Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and Hyderabad.

Vistara’s number of weekly seats has increased by only two per cent, largely led by higher seats out of Delhi. Air India will offer seven per cent more weekly seats, an increase led mostly by Bengaluru while the eastern sector will see a decline.
