Sugar prices went up by Rs 40 per quintal at the wholesale market in the national capital today on increased buying by retailers, stockists and bulk consumers coupled with tight supplies from mills.

Marketmen said a steep rise in sweetener prices was mostly attributed to strong demand, driven by ongoing summer season and wedding demand.



Meanwhile, has produced a bumper production of 87.16 lakh tonnes this season, against the last season's 67.96 lakh tonnes.

Sugar ready M-30 and S-30 prices spurted by Rs 40 each to settle at Rs 4,040-4,120 and Rs 4,030-4,110 per quintal.

Mill delivery M-30 and S-30 prices were also higher by Rs 40 each to end at Rs 3,660-3,760 and Rs 3,650-3,750 per quintal.

Among millgate section, sugar Dhampur, Anupshaher, Ramala, Baghpat, Morna, Sakoti, Nazibabad and Modinagar hardened by Rs 40 each to Rs 3,710, Rs 3,660, Rs 3,680, Rs 3,660, Rs 3,670, Rs 3,720, Rs 3,600 and Rs 3,730 per quintal, respectively.
