Rihanna wins the internet with her Met Gala Dress

There are two things that you can count on with the Met Gala (AKA the fashion Oscars): guests will half-heartedly nod to the theme, and Rihanna will blow everybody out of the water.

In 2015 she did so with a magnificent gown and cape by Chinese designer Guo Pei that was memorably compared to a fried egg by the internet.

This year she went one step further and in deference to who the evening was for, avant garde designer Rei Kawakubo (PSA celebrities the Met Gala is a dress-up party, don't be the lame guy that wears a check shirt and says he's a lumberjack), she went full Commes des Garçons.

Her ornate dress bloomed all over her body, and she paired the look with strappy heels and matching eyeshadow/blush. It played with ideals we have about fashion and the line between art and clothing - it was perfect.

And the internet agrees.

Social media lit up in praise of RiRi's look, and the fact that unlike most other celebrities she'd actually done her homework beforehand, and wore an ensemble that embodied the theme - Rei Kawakubo/Comme des Garçons: Art of the In-Between - without looking like fancy dress.

Kawakubo is only the second living designer to have been honoured in this way. Yves Saint Laurent was the sole subject of the Met's blockbuster fashion exhibit in1983. This is big! It deserves to be taken seriously, just like Rihanna did.

Basically, bow down, fives, a ten is in the building.
