A tiger was found dead in Bori range of the Satpura Tiger Reserve in Madhya Pradesh's Hoshangabad district.
"It appears that the tiger, aged over 5, succumbed to the injuries apparently sustained in a fight with a gaur (Indian bison)," Bori forest range officer Hari Prasad Pal told PTI today.
"During patrolling on Friday evening, we found the tiger lying dead near the bones and horns of a bison it killed earlier in the core area of the reserve," he said.
The tiger's carcass had some injuries, especially in the chest, which seemed inflicted by the bison's horns, Pal said.
He said the postmortem of the feline was yesterday conducted according to the guidelines of the National Tiger Conservation Authority.
The tiger was captured after it strayed from the forest area into an Ordnance Factory at Itarsi in Hoshangabad about six months ago, Pal said.
Later the carnivore was shifted to the Satpura Tiger Reserve, he added.
