Family lets boy down to rescue hen from well

A hen in distress got a new lease of life, thanks to a few well-meaning residents of the city on Saturday.

A Tulu-speaking family found a hen struggling after it had fallen in a well in disuse in their locality.

They then coaxed a boy in the family to help rescue the fowl. The two-minute 22-second video of the rescue act has gone viral on social media.

The boy is made to sit in a bucket and a rope is tied to him and the bucket. The bucket is then let down into the well. The boy comes out of the bucket, catches hold of the fowl and sits back in the bucket, before the bucket is pulled out of the well.

The video gives no indication of the location of the well. The act has drawn criticism, saying the family played with the boy’s life to save a hen.
