American motorcycle maker UM International LLC's Indian arm has opened a new dealerahip in Ahmedabad - the third in Gujarat after Surat and Vadodara. The company has laid down a $100-million investment for manufacturing facilities in India.

Rajeev Mishra,CEO, UM Lohia Two Wheelers Pvt. Ltd, said the company started its operations in India in September last year and has so far sold 7,000 units of its two premium bike models, Renegade Commando and Renegade Sports, each priced around Rs 1.6 lakh.

"We have spread​ our reach across the country with 50 dealers in 37 locations. We have set the target of 40,000 units by the end of fiscal 2017-18," said Mishra adding that the company has laid out a total investment plan of $100 million or Rs 600-650 crore for its India operations.

"We have invested about $50 million for our facility in Uttarakhand. We are expanding the capacity in Uttarakhand from the current capacity of 50,000 units per year," Mishra.

The company currently has 65 per cent localisation in manufacturing, which it aims to take to 100 per cent by April 2018.

The company is also looking for a second facility near Hyderabad in Andhra Pradesh. An additional $50 million will be spent for it.

The parent, UM India, is also setting up an engine plant near Pune to be operational​ by April 2018. "The parent company will invest additional $20 million on the engine plant," Mishra.

The company is focusing on the western and southern markets in India. "Nearly 65 per cebt of our sales come from these two markets. We will also launch two more models by July-August," he added.
