I take one game at a time, says Williamson
David Andrew Warner, the captain of Indian Premier League team Sunrisers Hyderabad is upbeat on prospects of his team during the ongoing season.
Warner, the south paw from Australia and Kane Williamson, the right handed batsman from New Zealand, who have been belting bowlers all around the park for SRH, took some time off from their sporting schedule and training to be at a Asics Store here.
In a relaxed settings off the filed, the 30-year-old Warner, asked about IPL season and SRH prospects told Business Line, “The IPL season is going good. I would have liked two more wins. The positive side is the final is in Hyderabad if we go that far. My hope is we are going to.”
“We are playing good cricket thus far and need to keep the momentum going and continue to work as hard as we can. Some games have been tough. There has been a bit of the due factor. Things can be different from one game to another,” he says.
On young cricketers playing well in IPL, Warner said “Young kids play with lot of freedom. There is not much expectation and pressure on them. That is when you get a chance to express and make a mark. It is not just about one good season, but about next couple of years how they shape themselves and plan as bowlers would get better and work you out.”
On left handers, “It is just one of things that Australia has good talent. I am lucky it is a country where cricket is a major sport.”
On being a leading run getter in test cricket and one-dayers, Williamson said, “I don't look too far ahead. I just take one game at a time and try and contribute to the team I am in. It is as simple as that.”
“I am enjoying my association with IPL. This is my third year here and am fortunate to be involved in. It is wonderful to see the popularity of the game and the passion around it is second to none. Naturally, it provides an opportunity to be part of a fantastic competition,” he said.
Asics, the six decades old Japanese manufacturer of running shoes, derives its name from Latin phrase Anima Sana in Corpore Sano, which means “A sound mind in a sound body.”
Warner said, “The brand continuously stimulates me to keep pushing my boundaries and am hopeful to have a great stint at this year's IPL.”
