Six persons were today killed and eight others injured in two separate mishaps on the national highway 65 in Krishna district, police said.

Three labourers were killed and eight others injured after a lorry hit their tractor near Jaggayyapet early morning, said Nandigama sub-division deputy superintendent of police Umamaheswara Rao V.



Two labourers died on the spot while another succumbed on the way while he was being taken to a hospital. The injured were admitted to Jaggayyapet hospital, of whom two were moved to a hospital in Vijayawada, he said.

The deceased were identified as Nagamalleswari (30), Venkata Rao (30) and Kiran (25), the officer said.

The labourers were travelling from Navabpet to Gowravaram village in search of farm works. A case has been registered at Chillakallu police station and a probe was underway, police said.

In a separate mishap that occurred near Pamarru village in Krishna district, a principal of a private college, a faculty member and driver were killed after their car was hit by a water tanker, they said.

Gudivada sub-division deputy superintendent of police Y Ankineed Prasad said the deceased were going to Vijayawada from here to attend a meeting.

They were identified as principal K Mohan Rao (69), T Venkateswara Rao (52) and driver Mohammed Sayed (32), the officer added.
