The Delhi team have given themselves a chance to scrape through to the playoffs by scrapping a fine win over the defending champions Hyderabad.

It was a team effort in the real sense of the term as just about everybody contributed. The bowlers did their job despite some pretty ordinary fielding and then the batsmen rose to the challenge by scoring quickly and keeping the asking rate within reason.

Rahul Dravid the mentor would want the youngsters to finish the game off by carrying on with the bat rather than just get attractive cameos.

The experienced Corey Anderson ensured along with Chris Morris that the target was reached but the youngsters got a touch carried away and lost their wickets at the wrong time.

Sanju Samson, Rishab Pant, Shreyas Iyer and Karun Nair are all wonderful talents but they must learn to finish games off and not leave it to the others.

Mohamamd Shami has been out of cricket for a while with a knee injury and it was good to see him bowl at full tilt. The bouncer and yorker with which he got two big Hyderabad wickets showed that he is ready to get back in the Indian team.

It has been heartening to see many Indian bowlers now bowling the yorker well. It’s not an easy ball to bowl and in the T20 format the slightest mistake means that the ball will be hit out of the park but when bowled accurately it’s a wicket dot ball.

What is even more encouraging is that it’s the younger newer breed of Indian quicks who are bowling the yorker and bowling it well.

The Gujarat team will have to lift itself after the demoralising loss in the super over to Mumbai. Yet they had done splendidly to pull the game back and take it to the super over. If Delhi has a problem with its fielding the Gujarat boys are truly like lions when on the field and it was their fielding led by Ravindra Jadeja and Suresh Raina more than anything that got them into the super over.

They will have to bat a lot better than they have so far to give themselves a chance. With Zaheer Khan likely to come back to the Delhi team it may not be easy but Suresh Raina knows that unless his boys lift themselves and play like lions they may have to exit the tournament like lambs.
