Hope I can make the most with the bat, says Binny

All-rounder Stuart Binny’s performance this IPL is a mirror reflection of his team Royal Challengers Bangalore’s fortunes. Just like how RCB have flattered to deceive, Binny has failed to set the stage on fire despite playing in the familiar confines of the Chinnaswamy Stadium.

Snapped up by RCB at least year’s players’ auction with the hope that he lends the much-needed balance between batting and bowling, Binny has not quite fired the imagination. While he was outshone by the brilliances of Virat Kohli, A B de Villiers and K L Rahul — the trio scoring the bulk of the runs and offering very little job for the lower order — last season, 2017 offered a great chance for Binny.

Rahul was ruled out completely and Kohli and de Villiers, who missed the early part of the season due to injuries and have had mixed results since their return. This presented the 32-year-old Binny the perfect chance to make a statement of his own but the Bengalurean seems to have squandered it. In the eight matches he has played, he’s scored just 78 runs while on the bowling front he's done a bit better, bagging four wickets from six overs.

Binny admitted that he's was disappointed with his performance this year. “Look, I got a couple of games where I had a decent hit. Probably I got in to bat at the eighth or ninth over. Obviously, missed those two opportunities to go on to win the game. So it has been disappointing. Things have not gone especially well for me with the bat. I think I have bowled decently with whatever opportunities I have got — bowling the odd second over — but I think we have got three games to go and we have to regroup. Anything can happen, T20 is a funny game. If I get a game again or walk out to a situation to bat I am going to make the most of it with the bat.”

Binny also said it’s hard to stay motivated as a team when fate has already been sealed following a clutch of woeful performances. “It has not been easy to be honest. It is something new for the team, to be struggling in the competition. We are last in the table. Right now we have regrouped and we have three games to go. We want to make the most of it when it comes to performances.”
