A 12-year-old boy who went missing from Chandrayangutta area here last week was found to have been murdered by a college student who planned to obtain ransom from his parents, police said today.
Police retrieved the boy's body from a pond in the same area this morning.
Munir Ahmed (21), the accused, strangled the boy and dumped the body in the pond, police said.
Munir, a BCom student, allegedly kidnapped the boy on April 28 and had planned to demand Rs 25 lakh in ransom from the boy's parents.
"The parents expressed suspicion about Munir, who lived in the neighbourhood. We questioned him. Then he went to Mumbai. We called him back and questioned him again yesterday and he confessed to killing the boy," a police official said.
Munir told police that he killed the boy as he couldn't muster up the courage to make ransom call to his parents.
A case of murder and kidnapping was registered against him. Further probe is on.
