Noted actor-director Amol Palekar will be conferred the D Litt (Honoris Causa) along with Bengali singing legend Nirmala Mishra and litterateur Sirshendu Mukhopadhyay by Rabindra Bharati University at its 42nd convocation on May 8.
RBU Vice-chancellor Sabyasachi Basu Ray Chaudhury said the personalities will be conferred the D Litt on May 8 at the University's Jorasanko Thakurbari campus, the family home of Rabindranath Tagore.
The West Bengal State Akademi of Dance Drama Music and Visual Arts Awards will be conferred on danseuse K Jatindra Singh, theatre personality Ashok Mukhopadhyay and painter Isha Mahammad, while researcher Sabita Ranjan Sarkar will be given the 'Acharya Dinesh Chandra Sen Memorial Award' for his work in folk-lore research, he said.
The VC said West Bengal Governor K N Tripathi, who is also the Chancellor of the University, will preside over the convocation and NAAC chairman V S Chauhan will be the guest-in-chief and deliver the convocation address.
Seventy scholars will be awarded their Ph.D. Degrees, while 50 scholars will get their M.Phil degrees at the convocation.
