Suspends MLA who accused Vishwas of being a BJP agent
The bealeaguered Aam Aadmi Party has managed to avert a certain crisis by preventing the exit of popular campaigner, poet-satirist Kumar Vishwas, by suspending an MLA who had accused him of being an agent of the RSS-BJP.
The party’s Political Affairs Committee that met on Wednesday decided to suspend Okhla MLA Amanatullah Khan whose remarks had upset Vishwas.
Late on Tuesday, AAP National Convenor and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had rushed to Vishwas’ Ghaziabad residence, along with Deputy CM Manish Sisodia. The trio, accompanied by party leaders Sanjay Singh and Ashutosh, then went back to the Chief Minister’s residence, where a meeting was held till late in the night.
Khan’s suspension on Wednesday was seen as a compromise that was reached after Vishwas threatened to quit the party. The AAP also set up a disciplinary committee to look into the statements made by the MLA against Vishwas.
Another decision of the PAC was to give greater responsibility to Vishwas.
“He (Vishwas) will be Rajasthan’s party in-charge as the State goes to the polls next year,” Sisodia told reporters in Vishwas’ presence.
During the late-night meeting on Tuesday, Vishwas had reportedly demanded stern action against Khan who had accused him of being an “RSS-BJP” agent and plotting a coup in the party, sources said.
The Okhla MLA had on Monday resigned from the PAC.
Vishwas, on his part, had accused Khan of being a “mask” and acting at the behest of a “coterie” surrounding Kejriwal. After the emotional outburst, Vishwas had threatened to quit the party.
