At least two miners were killed and scores of others injured in a coal mine in the northeastern Iranian province of Golestan on Wednesday.

Sadeq-Ali Moqaddam, head of the emergency department of Golestan province, said up to 50 people are believed to be trapped in the mine following the explosion, Press TV reported.

Ambulances and rescue teams rushed to the site, near Azadshahr city.

One official said 25 people, who had entered the mine to help the trapped miners, were taken to hospital due to gas inhalation.
