Chairman and Managing Director of Malayalam daily 'Mathrubhumi' M P Veerendra Kumar has been chosen for the seventh K Chandrasekharan Memorial Award for his contribution to the nation as a socialist, Parliamentarian, administrator and travel writer.
The award, instituted by the Chandrasekharan Memorial Trust in memory of socialist leader K Chandrasekharan, carries a purse of Rs 11,111, a plaque anda citation, trust Chairman P Koran Master tolda press conference at Kanhangad today.
A Rajya Sabha member, Veerendra Kumar served thrice as PTI Chairman and is currently a Director in the news agency.
He is also the Kerala unit president of Janata Dal (united). He was selected for the award by a a three-member panel of judges headed by C K Sreedharan.
Former state chief minister Oommen Chandy will present theaward to him at afunction to be held in Kozhikode on May 6, Koran Master added.
