A beleaguered Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has called a Special General Body Meeting here on May 7 after it was cornered in the ICC board meeting on the revised revenue and governance model.

The world's richest board was left embarrassed at the meeting, that took place in Dubai, where it was outvoted in its opposition to the new reforms.

The agenda of the SGM, will, therefore be “to apprise the general body of the BCCI on the discussions held with representatives of other member board of the ICC and on the decisions taken at the ICC meetings held on the 24th of April, 2017, and 26th of April, 2017 and to take all necessary decisions pursuant thereto,” a circular from the office of the senior most BCCI vice-president, CK Khanna, stated.

The BCCI, which generates 70 percent of the game's revenue, demanded $570 million, as per the ‘Big Three’ revenue model designed by former BCCI president N Srinivasan. However, the BCCI felt betrayed when its former president and the reigning ICC president Shashank Manohar lobbied for more equitable distribution of share. Despite the tweaking, BCCI continues to command the biggest share.

“According to the new revenue distribution for the cycle 2016-2023, based on current forecast revenues and costs, BCCI will receive $293M across the eight year cycle, ECB $143M, Zimbabwe Cricket $94M and the remaining seven Full Members $132M each. Associate Members will receive funding of $280M. This model was passed 13 votes to one,” ICC said in a statement.

To compensate for their loss, Manohar even made an additional $100 million offer to the BCCI. It was rejected by BCCI representatives Amitabh Choudhury and Rahul Johri in the meeting on Wednesday.

Offer still open

The offer is still reportedly open for negotiation, and has divided the house in BCCI over it.
The members are also wary of the reactions of the players, both present and former, if they decide to pull out of the Champions Trophy. The threat, meanwhile, still stands with BCCI having overshot the April 25 deadline of sending the team to the ICC. The date for the selection committee meeting, too, has not been decided.
