Three school students with a penchant for stealing mobile phones have been detained in Govindnagar here while they came forward to report a stolen bike of their own, police said today.
In a bizarre turn of events, the students happened to report their stolen bike in the same police station, where the man whose mobile phone they had stolen yesterday was also present, they said.
The class 9 and 11 students were identified by Anil, whose phone they had stolen in Daboli area, the officer said.
The phone was recovered from the possession of the boys, police said.
"The boys are said to be involved in at least 12 such incidents. They belong to well-off families but indulge in stealing to buy expensive items," a police officer said.
The matter is being probed, he added.
