Veteran communist leader and a member of first Kerala legislative assembly, K R Gouri was today felicitated at her residence on the occasion of the 60th year celebrations of the state assembly.
Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, Assembly Speaker P Sreeramakrishnan were among those present on the occasion.
Vijayan presented a shawl to Gouri, who was the Finance Minister in the first cabinet headed by veteran communist leader late E M Sankaran Namboothripad that came to power in April 1957.
Gouri and CPI leader E Chandrasekharan Nair are the only two members of the first assembly who are alive now.
Nonagenarian leader Gouri was expelled from CPI-M in 1993 over alleged "anti-party activities."
Later, she formed the Janadhipathya Samrakshana Samithi (JSS), a political outfit that became part of the Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF), and became a Minister in the UDF-led government between 2001 and 2006.
However, she severed ties with UDF last year following differences with the Congress leadership.
