Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) skipper Gautam Gambhir revealed the mid-innings pep talk, rather a stern warning that he delivered to his boys in the last game against Royal Challengers Bangalore.

Kolkata folded out for 131 and while coming out to defend the total, Gambhir with some stern words made it clear to the players that whoever drops their intensity could lose their spot in the playing XI.

"I wanted intensity from my team-mates. I wanted them to fight. I wanted them to win. I told them whoever dropped on intent should understand that this could be his last game for KKR, at least in my captaincy," Gambhir wrote in his column for Hindustan Times.

Gambhir further wrote that he was fuming in the change room for the first time in his seven-year captaincy stint.

The stern words paid off as Kolkata thrashed Virat Kohli's Bangalore by 82 runs at the Eden Gardens on Sunday confining the 2016 IPL champions to a paltry 49, the tournament's lowest ever score.

Chasing a modest 132 for victory, Nathan Coulter-Nile, Chris Woakes and Colin de Grandhomme took three wickets each to blunt the famed Bangalore batting order comprising AB de Villiers, Chris Gayle and Kedar Jadhav besides Kohli.

"The Aussie bowled like the wind and I supported him with attacking fields. My being under the helmet [at silly point] was more of a statement than a catching position," he said.

Gambhir minced no words in saying that he doesn't mind losing Fairplay points as long as the team is performing.

"I don't know whether TV cameras or microphones caught it but we were chirping all the time when RCB were batting. I am happy to lose spots on the IPL Fairplay award list but I can not see my team slipping on the points table," he said.

The Kolkata skipper further wrote that the highlight of the day was when Umesh Yadav's short-pitched bowling troubled Chris Gayle.

"And then there was another sight which would have pleased every supporter of Indian cricket. Indian fast bowler Umesh Yadav having 'Boss of Universe' Chris Gayle ducking and weaving was highlight of the game," he said.
