Uttar Pradesh director general of police (DGP) Sulkhan Singh on Saturday warned the cow vigilantes and said that no one would be allowed to break the law in the name of protection of cows.
Speaking to reporters after taking over the charge here, Singh said that harassment of the innocent couples by the anti-romeo squads would also not be tolerated.
''We will not allow goondagardi by any one...it makes no difference if the law breakers are from the ruling party or any other outfit,'' he remarked.
Singh said that he had been instructed by chief minister Yogi Adityanath to crack down on criminal elements and ensure safety ofwomen.
''No one will be allowed to take the law into his hand in the name of protection of cows....if any one has such information, he should share it with the police,'' he added.
The remarks from the new state police chief comes in the wake of several incidents of cow vigilantes thrashing people in different parts of the state in the past few days.
