AIADMK merger talks likely to begin in two days

The merger talks between the AIADMK warring factions in Tamil Nadu is expected to be held in a day or two with both the groups are ready with a set of demands with regard to allocation of Chief Minister and party general secretary posts.

The AIADMK factions did not announce officially the exact date of the merger meeting. But party sources said to DH that the merger discussions are likely to happen either on Sunday or Monday.

The seven-member AIADMK Puratchi Thalaivi Amma team formed by Panneerselvam will be led by former Minister K P Munusamy. The committee constituted by Edappadi K Palaniswami group will be headed by Rajya Sabha MP Vaithilingam.

O Panneerselvam is expected to demand chief minister and general secretary post for his team while the rival group, headed by Palaniswami is likely to settle down for a new deputy chief minister portfolio.

OPS on Saturday said his committee would soon announce the date of the meeting with the Palaniswami group. "We will announce the date soon. I am sure about positive outcome", he said.

However, he refused to disclose his team's pre-conditions that is expected to be laid during the meeting. "It will not be nice to discuss that at this point of time to the media", Panneerselvam said.

Local Administration Minister Velumani, who is in the Palaniswami group, said as far his team is concerned the party's "Two Leaves" symbol should be brought back. "We all should stay united for the benefit of the party", he said adding that his team is transparent and open minded.

He also refused to reveal his committee's demand during the meeting with Panneerselvam's group. Meanwhile, Chief Minister Palaniswami will leave for Delhi on Saturday to participate in the Niti Aayog meeting scheduled to be held on Sunday.
