GSRTC buses won't need to stop at NHAI toll plazas now

Press Trust of India  |  Vadodara

The buses of State Road Transport Corporation (GSRTC) won't have to stop at toll plazas of the National Highway Authority of (NHAI) in the state from today.

They will be paying the toll digitally, instead.

GSRTC managing director said this had become possible because of the use of Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology, which enables 'e-tolling' (payment of toll).

GSRTC acted on NHAI's directive to adopt the RFID technology, he said.

Under the system, toll is deducted directly from prepaid account of vehicle user when the vehicle passes through the toll plaza.

Nehra said this will help the state bus service save several crores of rupees as it would cut down fuel consumption. It will also reduce congestion at the toll plazas.
