WPI cools to 5.7% in March, higher vegetable prices fuel food inflation
NEW DELHI: Lower inflation in manufacturing and fuels cooled India's wholesale inflation to 5.7% in March after it hit a three year high of 6.55% in February.
Wholesale price inflation had declined 0.45% in March last year, data released by the commerce and industry ministry showed on Monday.
Fuel and power inflation rose 18.16% in March from 21.02% last month.
However, the price of LPG (2%) and aviation turbine fuel (1%) moved up.
Food inflation firmed up to 3.12% in the month from a 2.69% rise in February led by a 5.7% rise in vegetable price inflation that had declined 8% in the previous month.
WPI inflation in manufactured products, which has a 64.97% weight in the index, increased 2.99% from 3.66%.
The government also revised the rise in wholesale price inflation for January to 5.53% from 5.25% earlier.
