Last rites of drowning victims performed

The final rites of seven students and a faculty member of Maratha Mandal Engineering College here, who drowned at Wayari beach in Maharashtra, were performed in their respective villages on Sunday.

Akanksha Gatage, a student who is critical, is undergoing treatment in the intensive care unit at the civil hospital, Sindhudurg, while Sanket Suresh Gadavi and Anita Ramappa Halalli have been discharged from the hospital, sources said.

The bodies arrived at the Belagavi district civil hospital late on Saturday night. They were later handed over to their family members.
