Five things to watch out for today

President Pranab Mukherjee is scheduled to lay the foundation stone for the new campus of Dr B R Ambedkar School of Economics in Bengaluru on Friday. The institution, modelled on the London School of Economics, will come up on Jnanabharathi campus of Bangalore University. It will be developed at an estimated cost of Rs 150 crore.

The foundation stone for the Ambedkar Smruti Vanam at Amaravati would be laid on April 14 marking the birth anniversary of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar. The Andhra Pradesh government has allotted a 20-acre site where a 125-foot tall bronze statue of Dr Ambedkar would be installed. The proposed memorial would have a meditation centre, a library, an open-air theatre and a study centre.

Volvo Auto India is to launch the performance variant of its entry-level luxury sedan -- the S60 Polestar -- on Friday. The Polestar variant will come in Volvo S60’s top T6 trim, which will be an electronic all-wheel-drive standard. The S60 Polestar will feature a 2.0-litre four-pot supercharged gasoline engine mated to an eight-speed geartronic gearbox to generate 362 bhp (367PS) power at 6,000 rpm and 470 Nm of torque from 3,100 to 5,100 rpm. Though the S60 Polestar can go from 0 to 100 in 4.7 seconds, its top speed will be limited at 250 kph.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Power Minister Piyush Goel are to launch the Centre’s ‘Unnat Jeevan by Affordable LEDs and Appliances’ (UJALA) scheme for the state on Friday. Under the scheme, consumers can buy 9 Watt LED bulbs, BEE 5-star rated energy efficient fans and LED tube lights at nearly half the market prices.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is to visit Nagpur on April 14. Besides attending an event at Deekshabhoomi to mark the birth anniversary of B R Ambedkar, Modi will dedicate to the nation five power units — three at Koradi Thermal Power Station near the city and one each at Parali and Chandrapur power stations of the state power company Mahagenco. He would also make a draw of lottery at a sports complex in the city to announce winners of the month-long BHIM App campaign of the Central Government.
