PM Modi launches series of programmes on BR Ambedkar's anniversary

NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi today launched a series of programmes to celebrate the birth anniversary of architect of the Constitution of India, Dr BR Ambedkar.

The prime minister formally launched the merchant interface of the Aadhaar-linked Bharat Interface for Money (BHIM) mobile application. This will enable Indian citizens to make digital payments using their biometric data such as their thumb imprint on a merchant's biometric enabled device.

The PM also launched two new incentive schemes for the BHIM — cashback and referral bonus — with an outlay of Rs 495 crore for a period of six months.

He also distributed awards to winners of the Lucky Grahak Yojana and DigiDhan Vyapar Yojna. These schemes were launched last year to promote digital payments in India.

Among other development projects include IIIT, IIM & AIIMS, launch of Koradi Thermal Power Station and Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojna for poor.
