Five firemen were injured as irate locals pelt stones, when they went to douse a fire at the slums in Bawana today.
A call was received around 2 PM about a fire breaking out in slums located near F-Block, JJ Colony in Bawana, a senior officer of Delhi Fire Services said.
Twelve firetenders were pressed into service to douse the blaze that has spread in 1.5 acres and burnt around 300 shanties, he said.
People lost their temper while the firemen were at work and pelted stones injuring five firemen, who were trying to pacify the mob. Two vehicles were damaged in the incident, the officer said.
"Some of the vehicles might have reached late since we had to get vehicles from other stations. People went into panic mode seeing the blaze and were forcing the firemen to save their shanty before others," he said.
The fire was doused by 4.50 PM. The injured firemen were discharged after first-aid, the officer said.
